A San Fran Birthday

Signing off for a few days....I'm spending the weekend celebrating all 30 glorious years of my life in San Francisco, one of my favorite cities.

With this ridiculously good looking couple. (I like to steal Facebook photos)

Gio has been a very dear friend to me for the past 9 years or so, we have been through a lot together...and her fiance is pretty darn cool too.

I'm also excited to not sweat while walking, or breathing.

Peace out bbys.

My Bruised Foot

I ran a glorious 34 miles last week. It was nice to get back over 30 miles/week and I felt great mentally and physically. Until a weird little pain started in the pad of my left foot, near the toes.

It never fails. I'm blamed 2 factors.

1. The Treadmill
2. My Minimalist Shoes

I hadn't realized that the treadmill could be the culprit, but after talking to a rather experienced runner about the bruise like feeling, she offered up that little piece of reasoning saying that she avoids it because it really "tweaks her form".

Makes perfect sense. Always learning. Always growing. Sometimes hurting.

And the shoes. I still love them...but I ran 6 miles in them in one shot and I know better than that. My feet, ankles and all the little muscles just aren't strong enough for that yet.

So I took Tuesday and Wednesday off of running and instead cross trained today using this beauty:

I busted out 30 minutes on that and then 12 minutes of high intense intervals on the stairs. I felt a little dorky on it at first, but got into a groove after a few minutes. I liked the way it felt vs. the way I don't like how I feel on an elliptical, so I think I'll keep it in my Xtraining arsenal. I was dripping sweat and I looked beautiful when I arrived at my appointment to get my oil changed after my workout. What? You don't run errands sweaty? Psh. My trainer had an emergency and couldn't make our session today, so I did a repeat of last Wednesday's which was upper body/arms. I feel like I could see a few teeny muscle popping out while I lifted, so it was encouraging!

My foots feels WAY better today after some serious RICE-ing, so I'm going to wake up early and run some miles out on the roads...just like I like it.

I won a FREE pair of shoes from this Cute & Speedy Girl through her giveaway sponsored by Mizuno and their Mezamashii Project. Brilliant Mizuno, absolutely brilliant. Check it out.

I got a code. Shopped online. Called the special number. Consulted with a fit specialist. And BAM, my shoes are on their way.

I am stoked to try some Mizuno's!

Anyone else like the ARC trainer?

Why?

This time of year is when I start asking myself WHY I live in Arizona and WHY I do what I do for work.

Showing property at 3:00 when the temps are hovering around 110 degrees (does it even matter) in several vacant houses with no A/C.

Recipe for sweat, dead cockroaches on floors, and unsexy hairstyles.

I win.

I'll leave you with this little gem....as it sums up my Birthday Party on Saturday night....have another, Drinky McDrinkerson's.

So proud.

Ball Buster

I took the plunge and signed myself up with Naydine...a personal trainer at my gym that I had a few freebie sessions with over the past week. This morning was our official "Day 1" of a loooong 6 weeks ahead. Happy Birthday to me, old lady.

I hurt. In weird places.

End of story.

I'm Famous

Oh Hi.

Just a nice little Friday over here....I was very busy this morning "staring" in my first TV commercial. OK, I didn't star in it or anything, just had a teeny tiny part in my husband's FIRST commercial ever for his business. And of course, I felt dorky and awkward as soon as the camera hit me....how typical. But, I am very excited  for him and pretty proud too.

After the excitement died down, I ran some errands, did some work, ate a sandwich and now I'm blogging. I still have to bust out 6 miles at the gym. Yay me! (ugh)

I have a fun weekend ahead of me, so I am really excited! First up, dinner tonight with these gals:

I made my slave assemble my shiny new patio furniture last night and I must admit, it looks super sweet. Now if I could find some friends that would actually come over to sit it in I will be in business.

Part 1 of my home makeover session:

Off to get my run on. My party on. And then my sleep on.

Take me out to the ballgame!

I moved these....it was super fun. I came home to the boxes on my front porch and couldn't let them sit there.

Hint hint....it's my new patio furniture. Have fun Wade!

After my weight lifting/box fighting debacle Wade and I headed downtown and were treated to a baseball game from one of his work contacts! We left a little early to grab dinner and drinks beforehand, and then met up with Wade's biz partner and his wife.

We had lots of fun as usual and got home WAY past my bedtime. Our seats were ridiculously awesome.

I skipped my outdoor run this morning to catch a little extra sleep and headed over to the gym for an ass whooping from Naydine. I'm still hurting in weird places from our Monday session.

I was thoroughly beaten by her and then hopped on the treadmill for a 4 mile run. I'm heading back later tonight to finish my run (schedule calls for 7 miles today and I didn't have time this am) and take spin with Kara.

Whoever works out 2x/day on a regular basis is NUTS. I'm tired.

Party Dress

Yes. My outfit has been purchased and is waiting patiently for Saturday night. Shoes and accessories to follow.

I'm celebrating 30 this coming weekend...a little early...with my nearest and dearest. And I simply cannot wait.

I'm embracing turning 30, after all, why shouldn't I?

Up North

My weekend was jam packed and fun! We headed up to the cabin for the weekend and this was one of my favorites trips so far...I packed lots of action AND relaxation into a short amount of time....

Highlights:

1. Ice Cream on Friday & Saturday. 'Nuf said.
2. 14 miles in the Pines. (5 mile run Fri + 9 mile run Sat) followed by coffee and smoothies.

3. Meals. Stuffed Chicken, Salmon Salad, Steak. Yum.
4. Friday Afternoon Nap.
5. Brother Time (and his cutie pie girlfriend, Jenna).

6. A fancy new washer/dryer at the cabin.(Seriously, super excited)

Wade woke up with a MASSIVE hangover (can't hang, cough cough) so I deemed him worthless for the day....however, I enjoyed a big breakfast with my bro, an awesome drive home (2.5 hours driving Miss Daisy) and then a nice family dinner to celebrate Father's Day. I brought the Manchild home a "refreshing salad"...per his request.

Now, I'm relaxing on the couch preparing for a busy week.

Spinning

As I might have mentioned, I made the decision to re-join my gym.

I know, I'm a sucker.

I gave it a few months off...the weather was beautiful here in Arizona and I justified it by running outdoors, hiking, riding my trainer and doing simple weights in the comfort of my own home.

Today it's hovering around 105 degrees.

So yes...I re-joined. And I promised myself to do only one thing to justify this additional fee each month.

Do what you feel like doing and have fun.

Don't make workout plans. Don't try to commit to XX many days a week at the gym. Don't complicate shit by working out different body parts on different days, blah blah blah. Just go and do whatever the hell I feel like doing.

So ya know what? I tried 2 new classes this week.

I yoga'd and spin'd. (I know these aren't actual words, go with it)

I have been DYING to try spin....I figured I would be halfway decent at it and not look like a total jackass due to the fact that I have some cycling knowledge/experience.

I showed up an hour early, by accident, because I'm special like that....so I ran 3 miles, did some abs and got a little instruction from the teacher before starting.

I was even lucky enough to be joined by two of my girlfriends. One of either side of me. This was Jen's first time too, so we felt like dorks together.

It was awesome.  It was fun. The lights were off and I felt like I was back at Skate King circa 1992 with some sweet disco type lights flashing around the room.

I also had a thorough ass whooping. My tank, shorts, hair and sports bra were drenched  in sweat. I looked like a vision of beauty upon leaving lemme tell you. I spared you the photo. 60 minutes flew by and I was surprised to be done so soon.

I'm ready to try it again next week. And maybe another new-to-me class!

5K #2 & My Weekend

Weekend Highlights...oh yes, I live a VERY exciting life.

We kicked off the weekend with a nice early run on Saturday morning, and waking up at 5:00am on a Saturday is my idea of relaxing. Ugh. 9 miles followed by a stop at our favorite coffee shop. We ran into some friends there and hung out for a while, made some fun plans, and then walked home. I cooked up a delish and healthy breakfast, did a little yard work, laid out by the pool for a bit. And then this happened:

Oh Oregano's...my favorite guilty pleasure.

Th rest of the day was spent taking a nap, hanging out at home, furniture assembling, ceiling fan installing and being lazy. We also boiled some crap legs for dinner...good week at work calls for crab legs. Amazing.

I also did my weekly grocery trip....half my cart is always all produce. How 2 people can eat so much fruit and veggies is beyond me.

Another early morning today, with a 4:45am wake up call. Why I torture myself with this shit is beyond me. My club had a race so I woke up extra early to help with shirts and registration.

Plans for the 5k?

Wade's Plans: Balls to the Wall
Lindsay's Plans: Meh. It was hot. And dusty. And hilly.

My buddy Ryan and I decided to run together and and at the gun start I looked at him and said "let's go". I cannot stress how nice it is to run with someone in a race. I was hot, sweaty, eating dirt and cursing myself the whole time...but ya know what? I had FUN. And with Ryan biting at my heels, it kept me going. I got to yell at him to get his ass moving when he tried to walk and all of that resulted in a PR for both of us.

After we crossed the finish he gave me a high five and a big smile....and his teeth were covered in dirt.

Wade's PR: 20:06 (6:28/pace)

Lindsay's PR: 24:06 (7:47/pace)

We finished off the morning with a mimosa brunch with friends....and then I hit Nordstroms's Rack later on in the day....mwhahahaha. More on that in another post.

On running/working out this past week:

Miles: 29.1
Days: 5

This was the first week I think I have EVER run 5x/week and I actually was good with it and hit all my runs as I hoped for. Our training plan for the AFC Half has us running 5x/week and then bumping up 6x/week. Little scared about that. I worked out with a trainer on Wednesday and have some fun gyms plans for next week so I'm really liking my workout groove right now.

Have a great Sunday Night!

NRD

I know I know....EVERYONE is posting about National Running Day today, hell, I even acknowledged it on Facebook so I guess I ought to give it it's own post, right?

Wade and I woke up bright and early and were out running by about 5:45....there was actually a chill in the air when we walked outside. Rare but I'll take it as it typically feels like Satan's House about this time of year.

I ran 7 glorious miles in the form of a tempo run. The first 2 sucked ass, and then I settled into a nice pace of about 8:25/mile to finish it off. My legs are still sore as shit from my gym workout on SUNDAY. (I'm.so.weak)

Geez.

We hopped into the pool, drank coffee and made breakfast....all before 8:00. Sweet.

I am meeting with a personal trainer today (hold me). Normally, I wouldn't pay for a trainer, but I got a few free sessions when I joined back at my gym, so what the hell, right?

Is everyone running today?!

AFC Part Duex

Ah yes. I did it.

I booked a beach house. I registered. Party of 3, here we come.

The 3 stooges are at it again...and I'm super excited!

Reason #1: Amazingly gorgeous course
Reason #2: It's in SD, duh
Reason #3: "Recovery" beach cruiser rides
Reason #4: PR (hopefully...maybe...yes I can)

AFC 2011

New training plan has commenced....today I can barely walk from the 3,567,393 lunges and squats I did yesterday. So tomorrow will be my first "official" training plan run!

Friday Rambles

Today is Friday, yay!

Oh wait, I'm a Realtor so what is a Friday? Kidding...I actually might not have much work going on this weekend....and for that, I am grateful.

I don't have anything specific to write about so I thought I'd tie up all my random ramblings into one post.

The Weather and Running.

Hot as hell. 112 today. So.Not.Ready.For.This. I'm trying to get back on a regular running schedule, but just like always, unless I have something planned it's reallllly hard for me. I ran 5 miles on Tuesday/Wednesday and will be running at the gym today(3) and a longish run tomorrow am. I think the longest I have ran since the marathon is 6 miles, so I'm just going to 8, in an attempt to take it slow. My goal is run no less than 20/week to keep a good base. If I sign up for the half I am eying....then bring it on. That leads me to my next subject...

Traveling.

Phoenix in the summer is nasty. All I want to do is leave and go somewhere that cools off at night and makes me not miserable and not a stabby bitch. I really want to run the AFC Half again this year (San Diego in August, yes please) so I am working on making that happen.

My Hopeful Agenda:
  • End of June  - San Fran
  • End of July - Seattle with Mom (booked!)
  • Mid August - SD for the AFC Half
Europe is on my bucket list and I'd love to make that happen before we decide to make the decision to start a family...but we shall see. I'm also doing a little "Staycation" with some girlfriends this month so while we won't be escaping the heat, we will be drinking cocktails and floating down the lazy river. Good enough!

Home Improvement.

My husband and I were really considering buying a new home this summer, but decided last night to stick it out in this one for another year or so and make this year the year to travel, save more money, have fun and just "be". I'm really content with the decision and because we are staying, we are going to do a few things around here to spruce it up!

  • Pool Resurfacing. From Plaster to Pebbletech
  • Redo shower in master bath (blech, so gross)
  • Exterior paint

Random Shit.
  • Good Form Running class tomorrow, pretty excited.
  • Dinner Date Night tonight or tomorrow.
  •  Paint my janky nails/toes (ah, the life I live)
That's it. Off to run on the hamster wheel. In my NEW SHOES!
